Analog Sessions with ‘Made on Tape’
In the digital age it’s a rare treat for someone to book time in our studio to take advantage of our analog capabilities. But Chris Agar, producer of the ‘Made on Tape’ project, spent THREE DAYS with us doing just that! The video above is just one of many pieces of content that were produced during the sessions. Armed with a TASCAM Portastudio, Chris and his team routed everything they recorded through our vintage Trident 65 Series Mixing Desk, straight into the Portastudio, and recorded to tape. They experimented with things like getting the best sound from a full drum set using a single mic, various ways of summing down and mixing to a limited number of tracks, and the process of writing and recording a song from start to finish during their three-day residency.
The entire philosophy that fuels Made on Tape is finding creative inspiration by embracing limitations. And they certainly demonstrated just how much each piece of gear in our studio is capable of. A single mic seems pretty simple until you use it in every way possible! Many thanks to the Made on Tape team for reminding us of the full value of our modest New York City recording studio.
